Pictured : Martin Luther and Castle Church in Wittenberg

Oct. 31 is the anniversary of the greatest event since the founding of Christianity. This is the only truly great event that should be celebrated on this day. This day should be remembered as Reformation Day.

The door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany on October 31, 1517 is where he nailed his famous 95 Theses. These Theses resulted in the excommunication of Martin Luther from the Roman Church, and the biblical truths contained in this document gave impetus to the Reformation.

During the Seven Year's War (1756-1763) the Castle Church, including the theses door, was severely damaged. The current theses door is bronze and all 95 Theses are inscribed onto it.

Below are the Bible passages that led to his conversion to Christ, realizing that faith alone in Christ alone is the only hope one has of a hope and guarantee of eternity in heaven. He came to realize the necessity of trusting in Him alone for the forgiveness of sins and hope of eternal life.

Rom 1:16-17
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH."

Eph 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

John 5:24
"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

Romans 5:8
"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

D. Smith
